Introduction: The high prevalence of BREAST cancer, especially in Iranian young women, led us to survey the published Iranian articles related to BREAST cancer. The purpose of the current study was to analyze and visualize the trend of scientific output in the field of BREAST cancer research in Iran as well as Middle East countries.Methods: In a bibliometric study, all Iranian publication in the field of BREAST cancer indexed in Medline were extracted and compared with the publications of other Middle East countries during 1965-2008. Medline was searched based on the medical subject headings (MeSH) keywords. In order to make the search more comprehensive, the keywords suggested by the specialists were also included. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Microsoft Word and Excel.Results: Data analysis showed that the number of publications in the field of BREAST cancer originated from Iran had considerably increased. In fact, from one paper in 1990, the number reached 24 papers in 2008 (105 articles during 2001-2008 vs.9 articles before 2000). Additionally, Iran ranked the 5th among Middle East countries in terms of number of BREAST cancer-related publications. Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and Center for BREAST Cancer at Jihad of Tehran University were the most active centers in the field of BREAST cancer. The Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention (APJCP) published the highest number of Iranian articles in the field of BREAST cancer research.Conclusion: This study indicated an increasing trend in the number of Iranian BREAST cancerrelated publications in Medline during 1965-2008. The numbers especially had an exponentially increasing trend after 2001.

Introduction: BREAST neoplasia is the most common cancer among women in both developed and developing countries. Over 1.15 million women in the world detecting with BREAST neoplasia each year and the mortality rate is 502,000 cases from this cancer. The purpose of this study was to describe how Iranian women perform BREAST self-examination.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study 447 participants referred to five health center of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences were chosen. The questionnaire and checklist were completed by all participants through a face-to-face interview. If she obtains 0-6 total score, she has weak performance, if she obtains 7-12 total score, she has acceptable performance and if she obtains 13-18 total score, she has good performance of BREAST self-examination. Statistical analysis carried out using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) version 16. A P-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Non-parametric tests such as Mann–Whitney were adopted.Results: In our study, 92% of women heard about BREAST self-examination, but only 17.4% of them performed it monthly. Of 447 participants, 348 (77.9%) had poor, 78 (17.4%) moderate and only 21 (4.7%) had good performance. From all participants, 189(42%) by health worker, 36(8.1%) by family and 70(15.7%) by media learned how to perform BREAST self-examination.Conclusion: The study showed that although most of women heard about BREAST self-examination but it was not a routine screening in developing country. This study confirmed that Iranian women have poor knowledge about how to perform BREAST self-examination. There is need for adequate health education on BREAST cancer and BREAST self-examination among Iranian women.

BREAST Crawl is initiating BREASTfeeding and evidence based method. Followed by numerous studies on BREAST-feeding, and mother and child heath, BC was discussed for which a protocol was presented. There are few studies on BC method. For the first time in Iran, we performed this method in Alzahra hospital of Tabriz where we came across an interesting case. The report is about a term infant who was put on the mother's abdomen to find the mother’ s BREAST. The infant was stuck to the mother’ s skin due to abundant Vernix and could not move despite her attempts. This lengthens the expected time for BC method, but in the end, the infant managed to reach the mother’ s BREAST and started sucking on her BREAST without any help. There are various causes that might prolong BC implementation time or even prevent you from doing it. This case mentions to a problem that never listed in BREAST crawl guideline and may be selected as a hindering factor for BREAST crawl in future.
